Diamond & Gemstone Brokering

Perfect for engagement rings or to celebrate special events. Creating engagement rings is our specialty. It a symbol of love, love is something that requires a substantial passionate commitment, we believe so too does creating a fine piece of jewellery and this is reflected in our work.

Stage 1

Come into the store for the first meeting. It helps us if you already know what you want but if you don’t we can guide you in what designs would suite you best. With diamonds we explain the 4C’S- Cut, Colour, Clarity & Carat weight (size) in detail with you. With gemstones we talk about colour, inclusions, varieties and treatments. We can give you a guide to prices & explain our fees, as we work on a commission. You can tell us what your requirements are & give us a price guide to what you are looking at spending. After agreeing to our brokerage fee we then act as your personal diamond & gemstone broker. We then begin the process of searching the markets for the perfect stone that meets your criteria. We can also talk design & style & can be either guided by you or we can offer our services in styling a design to your requirements. People often don’t realise what suites one person won’t necessarily suite another whether we are talking about rings or pendants or other types of jewellery. Jewellery is like clothing, different shapes & designs suit different people. At Chilton’s our good taste is legendary, let us help you redefine your style. Jewellery sketches can be arranged through our resident jewellery designer.

Stage 2

Using our industry contacts we will source a selection of stones we feel will capture your interest. Chilton’s staff will keep you informed of our search via your preferred method of contact. Once a number of suitable stones have been found, you will be invited to make an appointment to view the stone/s. We will advise you of the stone/s we feel are the best value for money.

Stage 3

When the stones arrive they are viewed & tested by one of our in store qualified gemmologist, diamond graders & diamond technicians. Our specialists check each stone to ensure they have been correctly graded & match the description supplied. This process protects the client from diamonds being issued with incorrect certificates, or substituted stones. The colour and clarity of stones can be incorrectly represented on the stone’s certificate. For this reason our graders perform their own inspection of each stone using our state of the art equipment.

Our staff are happy for you to view the stones under our gemmological microscope. If you fall in love with a particular stone, we then start the process of making your piece. If not we can still search the market on your behalf for other stones. If you would like to take some more time to make the “BIG” decision please feel free to do so. Our objective is for you to be 100% happy with your purchase.

While we want to allow you adequate time to make your decision we must point out that if you do take some time to think things through please be aware that the prices that you are quoted are based on current available stock. Diamonds & gemstones do rapidly change hands within the wholesale market. Stones are usually held by us for a few days to a week. After this time the stone you are interested in purchasing may be sold to another buyer or sent back to wholesalers. If this situation should arise we will endeavor to find you another stone of the same value & quality, this however is not guaranteed. Until a deposit has been left the stone is still up for sale on the open market.

NOTE:All prices are subject to change without notice due to market fluctuations.
All stones purchased using this service must be then set in jewellery crafted by one of our jewellers.

Why use this service?

You will benefit from hiring one of Chilton’s qualified staff members as your broker in the following ways:

Shopping for jewellery is not always as exciting as it sounds. It can be both a daunting and frustrating experience. At Chilton’s we endeavor to help you make a wise and informed decision when buying diamond and gemstone jewellery.

When it comes to diamonds the four terms associated with them are Cut, Clarity, Colour & Carat are very often heard, but are poorly understood. Cut is one of the most important elements that increase the value of a stone. A poorly cut diamond even with a good colour & clarity can de-value a stone by 20-30%. It will have a loss of light which will mar its brilliance, making the stone appear dull, flat and lifeless. This is the same with all other gemstones as well. Stone dimensions can read like a secret code with very few people understanding their true meaning. This is often hidden in the certificate by percentages rather than words, making it hard for the average person to decipher.

Chilton’s have a proud & established reputation in the southern Sydney community. While other jewellery stores come and go, we remain committed to delivering only the finest in antique and modern jewellery. The advantage of hiring us as your broker is assured quality. We will save you money and you will end up with a better quality stone. On the market currently, there are synthetic diamonds, fracture filled diamonds, laser drilled diamonds and stones that test as diamonds (Moissanite) but are not diamonds & Cubic Zirconia’s coated with a thin diamond layer (CVD- chemical vapour deposited) and as well as many forms of coloured treated gemstones such as rubies, emeralds & sapphires . Our service will safeguard you from this.

In very few jewellery stores in NSW let alone Australia will you find a registered Valuer, a qualified gemmologist and two diamond graders under the one roof. At Chilton’s Antiques we are the exception to the rule, employing each of the above industry experts.

Our staff has been trained by some of the best diamond graders in Australia.

So there is every reason to shop with us. We can save you money, time and with qualifications you can trust why go elsewhere?

All of our diamonds & gemstones come with certificates & Insurance Valuations.
