Art Deco Jewellery:
The Art Deco design movement started in 1925 and continued until the 1940’s and reflects a mixture of styles including neoclassical, constructivism, cubism, modernism and futurism. The aim of the Art Deco movement was to create elegant, glamorous, functional and modern designs. Art Deco Jewellery saw a rise in the use of diamonds and other precious stones post WW1; combined stones in a dramatic way; saw an increase in the use of geometric shapes; reflected societies interest in Egypt (after the discovery of King Tut’s Tomb in 1923) with many Egyptian motifs; and saw the increased use of gemstones, ivory and jade which reflected the eastern influences.
Victorian Jewellery:
Victorian Jewellery was designed during the time of Queen Victoria’s reign over the United Kingdom, which extended from 1837 to the time of her death in 1901. During the Victorian era jewellery was used for signify status, mourning and express stifled love. Forget Me Not Rings, Snake Head Rings, DEAREST (Diamond, Emerald, Amethyst and Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire and Topaz) Rings are all examples of Victorian Jewellery that was used to express love and commitment, and reflect the era’s romantic and nostalgic nature.
Edwardian Jewellery:
The Edwardian period extended from 1901 to 1910 and was the time when King Edward VII reigned over the United Kingdom. The Edwardian Jewellery that was designed during this time period is often less ornate than Victorian Jewellery but uses more simple designs and classic lines which is how it has maintained its popularity in fashions to this day.
